30 Empowering Self Love Affirmations to Boost Your Confidence - Sage & Bloom (1)

Till a few days back, I was being my own personal Debbie Downer. I was in a weird state of funk, where despite all the creative ideas that were flooding my brain, I felt equal parts uninspired and incapable of bringing them to life.

It was a classic case of imposter syndrome and my inner dialogue looked a lot like this over the last couple of weeks: Who do you really think you are to actually put out this workbook that you’re thinking about? Who’s even going to buy this workbook? Who’s even reading your blog? Why will people even respond to your pitch emails? How are you even qualified to be dreaming all this? What do you have to show for all your years of working and blogging?

Obviously, all this negativity did not make for a great mindset. After allowing myself to wallow in this negative mind space for a few days, I started to push back my inner critic. I started to talk to myself with love and slowly but surely, things started shifting within me.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been down on myself though. By now, I am a bit of a champion at it. Over time, with a little bit of therapy and a lot of reading, I’ve come to realize that self love and positive, tiny action is the only way to get through these phases.

In these breakthrough moments, I find myself repeating a few positive self love affirmations again and again. Most of the time, it’s really just a variation of “you can do this”. It never ceases to amaze me how something as simple as that, repeated many times over, can cause this whole positive mindset shift!

How to Use Self Love Affirmations in Your Life Daily

It’s not a surprise that repeating positive affirmations and kind words to yourself is one of the best ways to practice self love.

Think about it – what do you do when a friend confides in you about all the self-doubt that is driving them crazy? You bolster them with positive talk, right? You tell them that you believe in them, that they are capable of doing all the things they want to do. You encourage them to take baby steps towards whatever it is that they wish to do.

So why should it be any different when it comes to your own self? Now sure, words of affirmation need not necessarily be your self love language, but there is no denying that there is so much power in positive, uplifting words.

Just to be clear, you don’t need to wait for an imposter syndrome crisis to start using self love affirmations (filed under #notetoself). In fact, repeating self love quotes and phrases as daily affirmations might even help you avoid an imposter syndrome crisis, or reduce the length and intensity of one.

To use self love affirmations more intentionally in your life, here are a few things you could do:

  1. Keep a handy list of positive self love affirmations with you or close to you. You can add it to your journal or your favourite notes app on your phone. I’ve included a few daily affirmations in this post (which you can download here), or you can write your own affirmations as well.
  2. Take out some time every day to go over your affirmations. You can try saying 2-3 such affirmations out loud to yourself every morning. Alternatively, you can glance over your affirmations list 1-2 times a day, perhaps once before you start your day, and maybe once during the course of your day.

How to Create Your Own Self Love Affirmations

While you can use the affirmations I’ve laid out above for your self love practice, over time, it might be useful for you to create your self love affirmations. This would allow you to craft self love quotes for your specific situations, and you might find it resonates a lot more!

Writing your own positive affirmations or quotes is relatively simple:

  1. Make a list of all your limiting beliefs. It could be anything that you believe about yourself and your circ*mstances that holds you back from living in a way that your heart truly desires. Like, “I am bad with money, hence I can’t save anything.” Or, “I can never wear anything nice because I am too fat.”
  2. Pick up your top 3-5 limiting beliefs, or insecurities. Their importance could be on the basis of what feels the most urgent to you at that moment. If you’re about to launch a new business venture and are struggling with confidence, start with that. And so on and so forth.
  3. For each limited belief, create a positive script and repeat it to yourself till it becomes easier to believe that new, positive sentiment.

So, “I am bad with money, hence I can’t save anything” can be reframed as “I am worthy of abundance in my life and I am getting better at saving money every day.” “I can never wear anything nice because I am too fat” can become “I am grateful for my body today, and I am in awe of all that it does”.

It might feel awkward in the beginning but it will become easier as you practice it more often.

So there you have it. A list of positive self love affirmations to build your confidence and boost your self-esteem as well as some tips on how to create your own affirmations.

As you might have already seen above, I’ve made a free downloadable version of these 30 empowering self love affirmations that you can print out and keep in a place where you can look over them daily.
