Next week, we will be heading to Australia for the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor Forum, organised by Brisbane City Council. The event brings together urban leaders, future planners, and change-makers to connect, co-create, and collaborate. Reveal will be representing as an exhibitor, starting the hard conversations about reinventing the processes around utility investigations in infrastructure planning. We know the key to building a more sustainable future starts with consistency and conviction from city planners to invest in policy that supports non-invasive investigation in the early stages of projects to mitigate the risk of utility strikes. This reduces the likelihood of design rework, delays, and the need for invasive and disruptive investigation that can cost cities millions of dollars. ⚠ Case in point: In 2018, Before You Dig reported 10,000 incidents of damage to underground infrastructure in New South Wales, with an estimated cost of $230 million.😧 A reoccurring issue for project designers is the lack of a data exchange platform where utility information can be clearly shared. At present, there is a lack of up-to-date data and existing data sits in silos, stuck in non-disclosure agreements. In 2019, Lucy Greenwood launched what she termed her 'Green Pledge' to minimise the impact of her arbitration practice on the environment. She brought together representatives of key stakeholders in international arbitrations to spearhead the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations. Since its launch in 2020, the Campaign has gained a strong global following. This interactive discussion will present the sustainable principles of the Campaign, share the past accomplishments and future plans for reductions in the carbon footprint of the arbitration industry, and feature testimonials of key stakeholders who have successfully implemented sustainable behaviors.In 2022, Lucy gave a powerful keynote speech opening London International Disputes Week (LIDW) about the past, the present, and the future of international arbitration in fighting climate change and promoting sustainability.
